As part of our commitment to community safety Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service work in partnership with a number of organisations to reach some of our more vulnerable Cumbrian residents. One such organisation is Age Concern.
As part of our Partnership working Age Concern can refer their clients to Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service for a home safety visit where appropriate.
During this visit advice can be given to help deal with the potential fire hazards in their homes and help design a 'Fire Plan' so that the resident will know how to react if they have a fire in their home. If necessary we will fit a battery powered smoke alarm. This Service is free of Charge to the resident.
Conversely, if while a member of the Fire & Rescue Service are conducting a Home Safety Check or any other service and they have concerns regarding a person who is over 50 we, having obtained permission, will contact Age Concern and an adviser will contact the resident to help & advise them on accessing services that are available to them.
Age Concern provides a wide range of services to the over 50's including:
Each referral is in confidence and needs assessed on an individual basis. For example, the resident may have hearing problems so appropriate equipment such as a deaf smoke alarm may be required, age concern may advice on benefits other aids available, support groups, befriending schemes any practical assistance required.
