Cumbria Fire & Rescue Authority has published a consultation document 'A Community Focused Fire and Rescue Authority' in which it outlines proposals to build new community fire stations in Carlisle, Workington, Whitehaven, Penrith and Patterdale. The Authority has backed a joint project with Lancashire and Merseyside Fire Authorities. This £35 million North West Fire and Rescue Authority (NWFRA) project will provide 20 new fire stations, of which six will be in Cumbria. The consultation period ran from 18 December 2006 through to 12 March 2007.
