At 09:45 hours one fire engine from Aspatria mobilised to a report of a chimney fire at a property in Ireby. Crews discovered the fire was contained to the chimney and used one hose reel jet, back packs and chimney rods to extinguish the fire. At 09:56 one fire engine from Kendal mobilised to a report of a car fire on Highgate in Kendal. Once in attendance crews discovered the fire was already out. It was caused by an electrical fault and to make the vehicle safe crews removed to battery using small tools.

At 13:34 hours one fire engine from Whitehaven mobilised to a report of rubbish on fire on Coach Road in Whitehaven. Once in attendance crews discoverd a fire involving an quantity of rubbish including a propane cylinder. Crews used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and cool the cyclinder.

At 15:10 firefighters from Workington attended a fire involving grass and gorse near to the A596 Workingtonand used one hose reel to extinguish it.

At 15:13 firefighters from Barrow attended a call to an out of control burning on allotments in St Andrews Street, Barrow and used one hose reel to extinguish it.

At 17:42 firefighters were called to deal with a grass fire on the cycle path off the A595 Disington. The fire had spread to an area about 10sqm. Crews used a hose reel jet to put it out.

At 18:59 firefighters were called to a fire at a warehouse on London Road in Carlisle. When they arrived crews found a small amount of rubbish on fire in the building. A hose reel jet was used to put the fire out. A joint investigation with Cumbria Police is now underway to find the cause of the fire.

At 21:14 firefighters were called to a report of a grass fire off the A595 in Parton. When the crews arrived they found that an area of about 100sqm of grass and gorse was alight. They used backpack extinguishers and beaters to deal with the fire.

At 16:22 hours one fire engine from Kendal and one fire engine from Ambleside mobilised to a report of a tumble dryer on fire. Once in attendance crews discoverd there was smoke issuing from the dryer and were able to remove it from the premise to outside. No further action was taken. At 17:48 hours one fire engine from Workington attended a grass fire approximately three square metres in size at Siddick Pond Nature Reserve, Northside Road in Northside. Crews extinguished the fire using beaters.

At 02:51 hours one fire engine from Carlisle East and one fire engine from Carlisle West attended a fire involving a chip pan which had been left unattended and was alight on arrival of the crews at premises on Ennerdale Avenue in Carlisle. The property was heavily smoke loggeed and two breathing apparatus wearers extinguished the fire using one hose reel and a fire blanket. At 13:04 firefighters from Barrow and Walney were called to a fire in a living room of a property in Portsmouth Street, Barrow-in-Furness. Crews wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reels to extinguish the fire. A thermal imaging camera was also used to check for spread of fire. At 14:25 firefighters from Penrith attended a road traffic collision on Access Road to Raislands, Penrith which involved two vehicles and the driver of one small commercial van trapped. Crews used hydraulic cutting gear to get the casualty out. Air Ambulance was also in attendance. For more details during office hours please call 01228 221671.

At 14:27 hours one fire engine from Workington and one fire engine from Whitehaven mobilised to a report of a road traffic collision on Branthwaite Road in Workington. Once in attendance the crews discovered the collision involve two vehicles with one person released prior to their arrival. One of the vehicles was on its side and firefighters used stabilising equipment on the vehicle and then removed the roof with specialist cutting equipment to release one female and one male from the car. At 16:45 hours one fire engine from Egremont mobilised to a report of a small rubbish fire on Wodow Road in Thornhill. Once in attendance crews extinguished the fire using a back pack.

At 22:11 hours one fire engine from Workington attended a chimney fire at a property at Camerton. Once in attendance crews found one small fire in the chimney cowel and used a roof ladder to extinguish the fire from height using a hose reel. At 15:10 hours one fire engine from Barrow attended a small rubbish fire in the open on Buccleuch Court in Barrow-in-Furness and firefighters used one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

At 16:25 hours one fire engine from Whitehaven mobilised to a report of smoke issuing from a manhole cover on the pavement outside St Bees Anglican Church on Main Street in St Bees. Once in attendance a cordon was set up and one breathing apparatus wearer used one hose reel and an extinguisher to put out the fire. A thermal imaging camera was also used to check the fire was out. The incident was subsequently handed over to the electrical services provider.

At 17:52 hours two fire engines from Barrow mobilised to a report of a kitchen fire on Jesmond Avenue in Barrow-in-Furness. Once in attendance crews discovered a fire involving the grill pan of the cooker and two beathing apparatus wearers used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. At 22:38 hours one fire engine from Carlisle West attended a small refuse fire which was well alight on Stanhope Road in Carlisle. Once in attendance crews used a drag rake and one hose reel extinguished the fire.

At 03:48 a fire crew from Longtown used one hose reel to extinguish a car fire, where the car was well alight on the A6071 in Longtown. Police were requested to attend this incident.

At 18:51 a fire crew from Wigton rescused three people who were stuck in a car in flood water at Moorhouse Mill in Aikton.

At 00:13 two fire crews from Whitehaven were mobilised to a building fire at a Pow Beck house on Meadow Road in Whitehaven. This was a fire in a first floor room. The fire crews, including four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. There was heavy smoke logging within the property. Fire crews provided advice and help to many residents and businesses in the Carlisle area of Cumbria throughout the day today, due to flooding. Here is a summary of incidents attended up to 12:05pm: 09:40 Edgehill Road - firefighters unblocked drains. 09:58 Wigton Road - firefighters unblocked drains. 10:02 Kingmoor Road - a taxi was stuck in flood water, so firefighters rescued one male from the vehicle. 12:05 Westrigg Road - flooding affecting numerous properties. 12:06 Helvellyn Rise - water was channelled away from a property.

Fire crews provided advice and help to people in Penrith and Alston who have been affected by flooding today. Here are the incidents attended in Penrith and Alston: At 10:23 at a property on Holmesfoot in Nenthead - firefighters used a light portable pump to remove water. At 10:34 at Grove Cottages in Alston - firefighters used a light portable pump to remove water. At 11:19 at Elmfield House in Alsotn - firefighters used a light portable pump to remove water. At 11:40 ata cottage in Blencow - firefighters used a light portable pump to remove water that had flooded the property.

At 11:57 a fire crew from Whitehaven used a light portable pump and a suction hose to pump water from Whitehaven Cricket Ground.

At 11:13 a fire crew from Aspatria used a light poratble pump to pump flood water that was affecting Outgang Road. The water was very close (inches) from the properties.

At 14:32 two fire crews from Penrith and one fire crew from Patterdale were mobilised to an incident where 12 sheep were trapped in floodwater from a river in Newton Reigny. Fire crews provided advice and help to many people in Wigton and surrounding areas due to flooding. Including: 10:16 property in Cumwhinton - water was removed using buckets and wheelie bins. 10:56 The Old String of Horses in Welton - firefighters had to divert water. 11:24 Beech cottages in Wigton - a section of road has been damaged by water, so firefighters closed the road. 12:15 Property in Cumwhinton - firefighters used a light portable pump to remove water. 12:39 cottage in Rosley - firefighters cleared the drains. 14:05 Wigton Fire Station - firefighters had to pump water from the firestation using two light portable pumps. 14:05 Dundraw Road Wigton - Main pump, hard suction and soft suction were used to disperse water. 15:58 a barn in Stockdalewath in Dalston - property was two foot deep in flood water so a main pump, hard suction and light portable pump were used.

Summary of flooding incidents in Cumbria on 18th May 2013 - almost 50 calls were received about flooding incidents. Over 35 incidents were attended and advice was given to all other callers.

At 22:23 a fire crew from Workington used one hose reel to extinguish a car fire, where the car was well alight on Salterbeck Road in Salterbeck (at the back of the houses). Police were requested to attend this incident.

At 01:08 a fire crew from Appleby made a vehicle safe after it was involved in a road traffic collision on the B6260 in Burrells. This was the only vehicle involved. The vehicle was on its side and was leaking fuel.

At 18:12 two fire crews from penrith attended a road traffic collision on the A66 in Penrith. This involved a HGV and two private motor vehicles, one of which had overturned down the embankment. All casualties were released prior to the arrival of the fire crews. Firefighters helped paramedics with casualty care. Firefighters also made the vehicles safe. At 18:30 fire crews from Penrith, Carlisle East and Shap were mobilised to a fire in the Little Chippy on Cornmarket, Penrith. The aerial appliance from Carlisle East was also mobilised. On arrival at the incident, the fire crews found the building on fire. This was a two storey fish and chip shop (approx. 6m x 8m) which was well alight. The fire crews, including four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, used two hose reel jets and two dry powder extinguishers to extinguish the fire. Police attended, to make the area outside the chip shop safe. Firefighters used a large fan to clear the smoke from the building. At 21:47 a fire crew from Longtown was mobilised to a car fire on the M6 motorway (southbound between junction 45 to 44). The car was well alight. The fire crew, including two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, used one hose reel jet to tackle the fire. At 13:29 a fire and rescue crew from Whitehaven went to an incident involving rubbish on fire in Ennerdale Road, Cleator Moor. They used one hose reel jet to put out the fire.

At 01:06 firefighters were called to a fire involving a wheelie bin and a motorbike on Macadam Street in Barrow-In-Furness. crews used a hose reel jet to put the fire out.

At 19:21 firefighters were called to deal with a chimney fire in Gelt Road in Brampton. Crews used a hose reel jet to put the fire out.

At 07:55 firefighters were called to a fire at Gosforth C of E Primary School. When they arrived crews found that the incident involved an electrical fire on a emersion heater. At 15:41 hours one fire engine from Carlisle East mobilised to a report of a person stuck in a lift at a property on Ennerdale Avenue in Carlisle. Once in attendance crews used small gear to release one person from the lift which was stuck between the first and second floor.

At 18:10 firefighters from Maryport attended a grass and gorse fire at The Promenade, Maryport and used one hose reel to extinguish it.

At 23:30 firefighters from Whitehaven attended a call to a large bonfire which was well alight and used one hose reel to extinguish it.

At 16:14 hours one fire engine from Whitehaven mobilised to a report of a road traffic collision on the loop road north with Inkerman Terrace in Whitehaven. Crews discovered the collision involved two vehicles with all persons accounted for. Crews made the vehicles safe at the scene.

At 19:44 firefighters were called to a fire in a kitchen on Sand Croft in Penrith. Crews used water to put the fire out. A special fan was also used to clear the smoke.

At 10:30 hours one fire engine from Carlisle East and one fire engine from Carlisle West attended a fire involving a kitchen on Lingside Crescent in Carlisle. Two breathing apparatus wearers extinguished the fire using one hose reel. All persons were accounted for at the incident.

At 12:46 hours one fire engine from Workington and one fire engine from Whitehaven attended a fire involving a bedroom at a semi-detatched property on Mason Street in Workington. Four breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reels to extinguish the fire which was contained to the bedroom and a thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots. At 16:06 hours two fire engines from Penrith attended a report of a road traffic collision on Newton Road in Penrith. Once in attendance crews discovered a vehicle down an embankment on its side and two persons were trapped. Crews released the two using specialist cutting equipment and handed them over to the paramedics and air ambulance. At 22:19 hours one fire engine from Workington mobilised to a report of rubbish on fire on Branthwaite Road in Workington and extinguished the fire using one hose reel.

At 03:00 a fire engine from Carlisle West was called to a fire on Raffles Avenue in Carlisle. The fire was a rubbish fire that was outside a property. The fire was put out by the crew using one hose reel jet.

At 05:56 two fire crews from Carlisle East used one hose reel jet to extinguish a fire involving a car on a road leading from Newbiggin Road South to a farm in Wreay. Police were informed of this incident.

At 22:23 a fire crew from Workington were mobilised to a fire involving a car on Grasmere Avenue in Workington. Police were requested to attend. At 15:41 firefighters attended a call to brakes on fire on a vehicle at the Druken Duck Inn, Ambleside and used one hose reel to extinguish it.

At 16:23 firefighters were called to a chimney on fire in of a paper machine in Park Road, Barrow. On arrival the fire had been extinguished by on site staff and crews applied water to the inside of the chimney and a roof inspection was carried out. At 18:18 a fire crew from Carlisle East used chimney gear to extinguish a chimney fire at a farm in Cumwhitton. Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to check for further pockets of fire.

At 20:24 a fire crew from Workington attended a fire in a kitchen of a flat on Belle Isle Street in Workington. There was heavy smoke in the flat, so two firefighters had to wear breathing apparatus. Firefighters removed a a pan from the stove and then vetilated the property.

At 20:51 a fire crew from Shap used chimney rods and a scotty bag to extinguisha chimney fire on Marshall Terrace in Shap. Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to check for further pockets of fire.

At 20:02 a fire engine from Brampton attended a chimney fire at a property near Abbey Bridge East in Lanercost. The chimney was well alight and chimney rods and lengths of water hose reels were used to put out the blaze. A thermal imaging camera was used to check there were no further hotspots of fire. At 20:04 fire engines from Carlisle West, Longtown, Carlisle East and Dumfries & Galloway mobilised to a road traffic collision on the A7 near Longtown. One vehicle was involved with a casualty trapped in the vehicle. The crews used specialist cutting equipment to remove him from the vehicle and made the scene safe. At 21:07 a fire engine from Carlisle East was called to a fire in Whernside. The fire was in bushes and was put out by the crew using one hose reel jet.

At 11:54 hours one fire engine from Carlisle West attended a road traffic collision on the road leading from Linstock roundabout to Houghton near Houghton Garden Centre. Crews released one casualty from a vehicle and assisted paramedics at the scene. Three vehicles were involved in the collision and all persons were accounted for. Crews also made the area safe.

At 20:54 a Workington fire engine turned out to a report of a fire involving bushes in The Cloffocks. They used one hose reel jet to put out the fire.

At 23:04 a fire engine from Maryport put out a fire involving a quantity of rubbish in Victory Crescent. They used a hose reel jet to put out the blaze.

At 00:39 hours one fire engine from Barrow attended a fire involving a wheelie bin on Granville Street in Barrow-in-Furness. Once in attendance crews found the bin well alight and used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

At 10:38 hours one fire engine from Ulverston mobilised to a report of a vehicle fire on Springfield Road in Ulverston. Upon arrival fire crews found no fire but the vehicle appeared to have overheated brakes and one hose reel jet was used to cool them down.

At 13:31 hours one fire engine from Whitehaven attended a fire involving approximately 40 square metres of grass and gorse on Wasdale Close in Whitehaven. Once in attendance crews extinguished the fire using one hose reel jet and then continued to damp down the area.

At 13:47 hours one fire engine from Whitehaven attended a fire involving approximately 30 square metres of grass and gorse near to Snebro Road in Whitehaven. Once in attendance crews extinguished the fire using one hose reel jet.

At 15:22 hours one fire engine from Carlisle East attended to a report of a small amount of refuse on fire on Buchanan Road in Carlisle. Crews used one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

At 19:49 hours one fire engine from Carlisle East attended seven small grass fires on Johnny Bulldogs Lonning in Carlisle. Crews extinguished the fires using two back packs and water buckets. Police were also in attendance at this incident.

At 20:45 hours one fire engine from Longtown mobilised to a report of rubbish on fire in the open on Hopesyke Industrial Estate, Longtown. Crews extinguished the fire which was approximately six square metres of rubbish well alight using one hose reel.

At 16:14 hours one fire engine from Barrow mob ilised to a report of a fire in the open on Rampside Road in Barrow-in-Furness. Once in attendance crews found approximately 300 square metres of grass, gorse and refuse well alight. Crews used back packs and beaters to extinguish the fire.

At 16:55 hours one fire engine from Barrow mobilised to a report of a grass fire on Cavendish Park in Barrow-in-Furness. Once in attendance crews discovered approximaely ten square metres of grass and gorse which was alight and back packs were used to extinguish the fire.

At 17:25 hours one fire engine from Workington mobilised to a grass fire on Northside Road in Workington. Once in attendance crews extinguished the fire using back packs.

At 18:48 hours two fire engines from Penrith attended a fire involving a caravan at Gill Head Farm Caravan Park at Troutbeck. Once in attendance crews discovered the fire had spread to a motor vehicle which was well alight and also affected woodland behind the vehicle. Crews used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. At 19:20 hours one fire engine from Carlisle West attended a fire involving approximately ten square metres of grass on Robert Chance Gardens in Carlisle. One hose reel was used to extinguish the fire.

At 00:49 a fire crew from Carlisle West helped Police to clear a petrol spillage on Mulcaster Crescent in Carlisle.

At 01:37 a fire crew from Whitehaven used two hose reels to extinguish a car fire, where the car was well alight, on Frizington Road in Whitehaven. Police also attended this incident.

At 15:32 a fire crew from Keswick and Cockermouth were mobilised to a house fire on the access road through to Threlkeld from the A66T at Threlkeld. The aerial appliance and a fire engine from Carlisle East also attended. On arrival at the incident, the fire crews found that this was a fire in the roof space of a buliding, approximately 20 metres by 10 metres. Police were requested to attend, to close the road. Fire crews used a tripple extension roof ladder and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. At 18:33 a fire crew from Kendal used one hose reel to extinguish a fire involving a large quantity of rubbish on Appleby Road in Kendal

At 20:27 a fire crew from Barrow used one hose reel and a drag rake to extinguish a fire involving a large quantity of garden waste, which was located to the rear of a property on Manx View in Askam-in-Furness.

At 21:52 a fire crew from Barrow extinguished a small grass fire on Brook Street in Barrow-in-Furness.

At 06:50 a fire crew from Whitehaven used small hand gear and a high pressure air bag to release a dog that was stuck in railings on High Road in Whitehaven. Police were informed of this incident.

At 9:32 a fire crew from Carlisle West used one hose reel to extinguish a fire involving a hedge that was well alight on Denton Street in Carlisle.

At 08:37 a fire engine from Millom and a fire engine from Bootle attended a report of a fire at Devonshire Road Industrial Estate, Millom. The fire involved a metal container measuring 8 feet by 40 feet. Small hand tools and a hose reel jet was used to put out the fire.

At 10:39 firefighters from Barrow and Walney attended a call to a house fire in Walney Road, Barrow-in-Furness with persons reported. On arrival crews rescued one person from the property by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. One hose reel was used at this incident and Ambulance and Police staff were also in attendance. At 13:48 two fire engines from Barrow were called to a takeaway restaurant on Market Street, Dalton-in-Furness. There had been a small fire in an electricity consumer unit which was continuing to smoulder. Firefighters used a CO2 and a dry powder extinguisher to put out the fire and a thermal imaging camera to check for further areas of heat. The crews liaised with the electricity company as they repaired the unit.

At 00:27 firefighters were called to a paper recycling bin fire at the Morrisons Supermarket on Flatt Walks in Whitehaven. Crews used two hose reel jets to put the fire out.

At 12:41 firefighters from Kendal were called to a road traffic collision involving a motorbike. One casualty was released from the vehicle by crews using small cutting gear. At 12:15 firefighters from Kendal were called to a smell of buring at Westmoreland General Hospital, Burton Road, Kendal. At 15:02 firefighters from Carlise East and Carlisle West attended road traffic collision involving one saloon car and a mini digger. On arrival crews found one adult trapped under the digger and two others from the car injured. Crews released the person from under the digger using hydraulic cutting gear, airbags and equipment and the casualties were transported to hospital via Air and land Ambulances. At 16:59 one fire engine from Whitehaven went to a report of refuse on fire in Bowness Road. They used one hose reel jet to put out the flames.

At 19:13 one fire engine from Milnthorpe was called to refuse on fire in Akay Woods, Sedburgh. The firefighters used a hose reel jet and water back packs to put out the blaze.

At 20:53 one fire engine from Workington went to an incident involving a large quantiy of rubbish on fire at Dunmail Retail Park, Workington. Firefighters used one hose reel jet to put out the flames.

Firefighters from Ulverston were called to a report of a fire in the open at a farm in Lowick Green at 21:12. They found a hot tub on fire and the crew, one wearing breathing apparatus, used two hose reel jets to put out the fire.

At 22:06 one fire engine from Barrow went to a skip fire in Newton Road. They put out the fire using one hose reel jet.

At 22:07 firefighters were called to a report of a small rubbish fire at Stockmoor Hall in Broughton Moor. Crews used a back pack extinguisher to put the fire out.

At 21:32 firefighters were called to a grass fire in a field off Cavendish Dock Road in Barrow-In-Furness. Crews used hose reel jets to deal with the fire that had spread to an area of about 50sqm.

At 19:20 firefighters were called to a report of a car fire on Snape Road in Workington. Crews used a hose reel jet to deal with the fire, whoch had been contained to the engine compartment of the car.

At 08:35 firefighters from Whitehaven, Frizington and Workington attended a bus on fire in Galemire, Cleator Moor and used two hose reels to extinguish it. At 16:31 hours one fire engine from Workington mobilised to a report of rubbish on fire in the open on Calva Brow in Workington. Once at the scene firefighters found a small quantity of rubbish and used one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

At 17:43 hours one fire engine from Barrow-in-Furness attended a fire involving a small amount of rubbish in a concrete piller box and used one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

At 06:27 firefighters from Ulverston and Barrow were called to a report of a fire at Flames Pizzeria on Fountain Street in Ulverston. When they arrived crews found that a blaze had taken hold of the shop floor. Crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze with hose reel jets. At 01:47 firefighters were called to a car fire off the access road to Southwaite from the C1041. Crews used a hose rel jet to put out the fire. Cumbria Police also attended this incident.

At 12:28 hours two fire engines from Barrow attended a report of a house fire on Yarlside Road in Barrow-in-Furness. Two breathing apparatus wearers extinguished the small fire which involved a pan using one hose reel jet. A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots and a large industrial fan to disperse the smoke. At 17:33 firefighters from Barrow were called to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles with one person trapped. On arrival crews used specialised cutting equipment to extricate the person from a vehicle and handed the casualty over to Paramedics. Police also attended for traffic management. At 21:31 firefighters were called to deal with a large rubbish fire at a farm off Appleby Road in Scalthwaiterigg in Kendal. Crews used backpack extinguishers to put the fire out.

At 20:26 firefighters were called to deal with a small rubbish fire at I Hudson Vehicle Repair Workshop on Haverigg in Haverigg. Crews used backpack extinguishers to put the fire out.

At 19:41 firefighters were called to deal with a small rubbish fire on a play area off Jacktrees Road in Cleator Moor. Crews used backpack extinguishers to put the fire out.

At 17:30 firefighters were called to a report of a car fire on the A69/A689 Brampton. Crews used two hose reel jets to deal with the incident.

At 16:47 firefighters were called to a report of a collision on the A595 in Workington. When they arrived they found that the incident involved two cars. A woman was trapped in one of the vehicles. At 01:59 hours one fire engine from Carlisle East attended a car fire on Victoria Road in Carlisle. Once in attendance crews discovered a small hatchback vehicle well alight and used one hose reel to extinguish the fire. The police were also in attendance at this incident. At 12:13 a fire crew from Barrow used beaters to extinguish a grass fire, involving 100 square metres of grass and gorse at Rampside by the beach in Barrow-In-Furness.

At 15:05 fire crews from Carlisle West, Carlisle East and Wigton were mobilised to a building fire at a Hopes Auction Co Ltd in Wigton. On arrival at the incident, fire crews found a large quantity of straw and hay on fire in an agricultural shed (approximately 100 metres by 30 metres). Police were requested to attend this incident. At 20:43 one fire engine each from Carlisle East, Carlisle West and Longtown were called to a fire in the old railway shunting building in Currock Road, Carlisle. They found a small fire in a derelict tram shed, the building measuring approximately 100m x 100m. One hose reel jet was used to put out the fire.
