At 1729 hours on Monday 8th March 2010, appliances from Silloth, Wigton and Carlisle along with Station Manager John Wall attended reports of a cow stuck in quick sand just outside of Abbeytown. The 350kg heifer was stuck up to its head in quick sand and access to the cow was extremely difficult. Crews donned in dry suits, life jackets, animal protective clothing and using airpaths tried to reach the cow but were only able to get within 5m of it. Crews then returned to the bank side and following liaison with a vet and RSPCA decided that the only solution was to destroy the heifer. Crews stood by awaiting the arrival of police marksmen and the last appliance returned home station at 2245. At 2136 hours on Monday 8th March 2010, 2 appliances from Carlisle attended reports from police of a road traffic collision on London Road junction with Eastern Way, Carlisle. The incident involved 2 private motor vehicles and paramedics who were already on scene at the time of call required fire service assistance to remove a casualty from one of the vehicles. Fire Service did this using manpower only and then proceeded to make the scene safe using small hand tools. Appliances returned home station at 2214. At 0123 hours on Saturday 6th March 2010, one appliance from Staveley and one appliance from Windermere, together with Station Manager Steve Sharrock attended a property fire on Millfield Terrace, Staveley. The incident involved a kitchen fire which was extinguished using one hose reel, two sets of breathing apparatus and small tools. At 0214 hours on Saturday 6th March, one appliance from Shap, together with Station Manager Sharrock attended reports of an ATM cash machine smoking, on Main Street, Shap. The fire was extinguished using two sets of breathing apparatus and one dry powder extinguisher. The appliance returned to station at 0346 hours. At 1250 hours on Saturday 6th March, 1 appliance from Arnside and Station manager Sharrock attended to Station Rd Arnside to assist ambulance personnel with a female casualty who had fallen down a ditch and injured her leg. Fire service assisted in lifting the casualty clear using a ?longboard?. And transferred her to a waiting ambulance, returning to station at 1331 hours.

At 1335 hours on Saturday 6th March, 2 appliances from Maryport
Along with Station Manager Wall were mobilised to Flimby Lonning, near Maryport to assist ambulance personnel with a man who was trapped in machinery. The casualty had been trapped by his leg but was released by ambulance personnel prior to fire service arrival. Fire service assisted with making the casualty comfortable and transferred him to the waiting ambulance returning to station at 1440 hours.

At 0919 hours on Friday 5th March 2010, 2 appliances from Carlisle attended reports from the Police of a road traffic collision on Baron Way, Kingsmoor Business Park, Carlisle. It was reported that the incident involved 2 private motor vehicles and persons were trapped in one of the vehicles. On arrival the fire service assisted one person from one of the vehicles and made the scene safe using holmatro spreaders and hearth kit. There was a total of 2 casualties that were treated by paramedics. The appliances returned home station at 0954. At 1132 hours on Friday 5th March 2010, 1 appliance from Dalton attended a call into control from a lady asking for us to assist release a dog that was trapped in a gate on Fell Croft, Dalton?in-Furness. On fire service arrival the dog was released using bolt croppers and the appliance returned to home station at 1156. The appliance returned home station at 1156.

At 1955 hours on Wednesday 3rd March 2010, 2 appliances from Carlisle along with Station Manager Craig Drinkald attended reports of a property fire on Metcalfe Street, Carlisle. On arrival it was found that a ground floor flat was well alight. The occupants in the flat above were rescued by firefighters using a 9 metre ladder and transported to the Carlisle Infirmary by Ambulance suffering smoke inhalation. The fire was extinguished by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using 2 hose reels. The last appliance returned to home station at 2203 hours. At 0346 hours on Tuesday 2nd March 2010, 2 appliances from Ulverston attended reports of property fire on Lime Tree Road, Ulverston. On arrival fire was confined to the grill pan of the ground floor kitchen. Fire was found to be out on arrival and Fire & Rescue Service carried out a full inspection. At 1004 hours on Sunday, 28th February 2010, 2 appliances from Workington and Group Manager Mike McMinn attended reports of a property fire on South William Street, Workington. Upon arrival, an upstairs bedroom was well alight. Two firefighters donned in breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using one hosereel. Crews returned to home station at 1051 hours. At 1016 hours on Sunday, 28th February 2010, 2 appliances from Lazonby and Penrith, along with Station Manager Conrad Leather attended reports of a road traffic accident on road linking the A686 and Glassonby. The collision involved 2 vehicles. One casualty had been released from one of the vehicles prior to the arrival of appliances & had been transferred to hospital by ambulance. One further casualty was released by the crews using hydraulic cutting equipment. She was then transferred to hospital by air ambulance. The fire involved the living room of a large dwelling & was extinguished by 4 breathing apparatus wearers using one hosereel & a thermal image camera. At 0706 hours on Tuesday 23 February 2010, two appliances from Appleby, one appliance and the Major Rescue Vehicle from Kendal, together with Station Manager Leather attended reports of a horse stuck in a cattle grid at Kings Meaburn, near Penrith. The horse was freed from the cattle grid using Holmatro cutting equipment and strops. The appliances returned to their stations at 0906 hours. At 2234 hours on Tuesday 23 February, one appliance from Maryport was mobilised to an automatic fire alarm at New Balance, Maryport Road, Flimby. When confirmation was received that there was a fire within the premises at 2313 hours, a second appliance from Maryport was mobilised to assist along with Watch Manager Rick Charlton and Group Manager Adrian Holme. A fire involving a quantity of material was extinguished using 1 Dry Power extinguisher, 1 Carbon Dioxide Extinguisher and a Thermal Imaging Camera. All appliances had returned by 0048 hrs.

At 1401 hours on Tuesday 23 February 2010, one appliance from Carlisle attended a report of an eleven month old child stuck in a high chair, on Petteril Street, Carlisle. Crews rescued the child using small tools. The appliance returned to station at 1418 hours.

At 1152 hours on Monday 22 February 2010 appliances from Penrith, Carlisle and the Major Rescue Vehicle from Carlisle plus Station Manager Leather attended a road traffic collision on Greystoke Road, Penrith. The incident involved one car and one light goods vehicle, the male driver in the car was trapped and subsequently released by firefighters using hydraulic cutting equipment and transported to hospital by Air Ambulance. At 1113 hours on Monday 22nd February 2010 appliances from Ulverston and Dalton attended a road traffic collision on the A590 near the Armadale Hotel, Arrad Foot, Ulverston. The incident involved two vehicles and all persons were found to be released upon arrival. Crews made the scene safe and returned to station at 1139 hours.

At 0409 hours on Friday, 19th February 2010, the Fire & Rescue Service were called to reports of a building on fire at Haygarth Court, Kendal. Two appliances from Kendal, one from Staveley & the Aerial Ladder Platform from Barrow, along with Group Manager Steve Healey attended. The fire involved a 3 storey building measuring approximately 20 metres by 30 metres. The fire involved the roof space & was extinguished by 4 breathing apparatus wearers using 2 jets & 2 hosereels & the aerial ladder platform was utilised. The incident has now been scaled down. A small fire in an upstairs bedroom was extinguished using 1 hosereel and 2 sets of breathing apparatus. Crews returned to home station at 1619 hours. At 0946 hours on Thursday 18th February, one appliance from Kendal attended reports of an escaped cow on Shap Road in Kendal. One person was injured by the cow, first aid was administered by firefighters at the scene until the ambulance service arrived. The cow was destroyed by a police marksman. The crew returned to home station at 1056 hours.

At 1043 hours on Thursday 18th February one appliance from Seascale, one from Bootle along with Watch Manager Berry attended an RTC on the A595 at Ravenglass. The incident involved one car which was made safe by fire service personnel. Crews had returned to their home stations by 1141.

At 0807 hours on Wednesday 17th February 2010, one appliance Ulverston attended reports of a road traffic collision at White Gill Lane, Great Urswick, Ulvertson. The incident involved 1 private motor vehicle. All persons were released prior to the fire service arrival and the vehicle was made safe by fire service personnel using small hand tools. At 1459 hours on Wednesday 17th February 2010, appliances from Shap and Penrith along with Group manager Sowerby attended a road traffic collision on the A6 near the Quarry between the Shap Wells Hotel and Shap village. The call originally from police stated 1 female casualty was trapped in the single vehicle involved and on arrival she was released from the vehicle by fire service personnel using holmatro cutting equipment, blocks and tear drop tool. She was transferred to Furness General hospital by air ambulance. The last crew had returned home station at 1621. At 0852 hours on Wednesday 17th February 2010, 2 appliances from Barrow along with Watch manager Wright attended reports of a road traffic collision involving a single vehicle which had overturned near the Tithebarn Garden Centre, Dalton in Furness. At the time of call a female was reported trapped in the vehicle involved, however on arrival all persons had been released. On arrival a fire involving a microwave oven was extinguished by the crew by removing the item to the open air. The property was ventilated & the crew returned to home station at 1119 hours.

At 1518 hours on Friday, 12th February 2010, one appliance from Kirkby Stephen attended a road traffic collision on the A685, near the Kaber turnoff, Kirkby Stephen. The incident involved one bus & one van. A total of 3 persons sustained injuries. One person was treated at a medical centre & 2 further casualties were taken to hospital by ambulance & air ambulance.
