At 1024 hours on Friday 3rd February 2012, two appliances from Keswick and Cockermouth, together with Watch Manager Colin Wilson and Station Manager Kevin Bethwaite attended a road traffic collision on the A591, near Bassenthwaite. The incident involved one vehicle which had left the road. One casualty was rescued by fire service personnel using two sets of Holmatro hydraulic cutting equipment and transferred to hospital by air ambulance. At 2321 hours on Wednesday 1st February 2012, appliances from Barrow, Walney and Dalton, including the aerial ladder platform, along with Station Manager Stuart Dolan and Watch Manager Mike Dobson attended reports of a fire in a flat on Low White Close, Barrow in Furness. On arrival crews found a first floor flat well alight and the building heavily smoke logged. Crews rescued three people and a dog and two casualties were transferred to Furness General Hospital. Crews extinguished the fire in the bedroom using six sets of breathing apparatus, two hosereels, two 9 metre ladders, thermal imaging cameras, lighting and positive pressure ventilation. At 1831 hours on Thursday 2nd February 2012, appliances from Ambleside, Windermere, Stavely, and Kendal along with Watch Manager Hevey and Station Manager Richardson attended reports of a fire in a property on Beech
Close, Windermere.
The initial call indicated the fire was in a first floor lounge of a 2 storey building 20 x 50m however on arrival the fire was found to also be in the roof void. The incident was sectorised and four breathing apparatus wearers, 2 hose reel jets, 1 compressed air foam jet, along with 1 ground monitor, thermal image camera, height safety equipment and 9m ladder were used to extinguish the fire. Crews were engaged for some time breaking away and damping down and the last appliance returned home station at 2332. At 2152 hours on Thursday 2nd February 2012. Appliances from Dalton and Barrow along with Watch Manager Dobson attended reports of smoke in a property on Hartington Street, Dalton in Furness. The incident involved a cooker which had been left unattended but was out on arrival. Whilst attending this incident the crews also assisted a disabled lady who had become trapped in her bathroom when her husband went to investigate the fire alarm activation. She was released by crews using a hooligan tool. Appliances returned home station at 2234. At 0826 hours on Monday, 30th January 2012, 2 appliances from Kendal and Watch Manager Sean Hevey attended reports of a fire on Dockray Hall Industrial Estate, Dockray Road, Kendal. A fire involved an industrial unit measuring approximately 10 metres by 10 metres. The fire was extinguished by 4 breathing apparatus wearers using one hosereel. An adjacent property was also smoke logged. Crews made the scene safe and returned to home station at 1006 hours. At 0250 hours on Satruday 28th January 2012, 1 appliance from Carlisle attended a call from police to a road traffic collision on John Street, Carlisle.
All persons were accounted for and crews made the scene safe using small gear and environmental pads. They returned home station at 0313 hours.

At 1018 hours on Saturday 28th January 2012, 1 appliance from Keswick, 1 appliance from Cockermouth, WM Wilson and T/SM McVay attended a call to the car park, at the rear of Brysons, on the Main Street at Keswick where one elderly female pedestrian was involved in a collision with a vehicle. The female was extricated using chocks, blocks, holmatro spreaders, airbags and hydraulic jacks, and was dealt with by paramedics and ambulance crew at the scene then removed by ambulance to the RVI at Newcastle. At 1409 hours on Saturday 28th January 2012, 2 appliances from Carlisle and 1 appliance from Brampton along with Watch Manager Dean and Group Manager Sowerby, attended a call from the Police to a road traffic collision on Moorhouse Road near Carlisle. The incident involved a car and a tractor and trailer, the car which was well alight on arrival, was extinguished using 4 hose reels, 2 foam branches, dry powder and CO2 extinguishers, a winch, environmental kit, small tools and shovels. At 0011 hours on Friday, 27th January 2012, 2 appliances from Kendal, one appliance from Staveley, Station Manager Brian Steadman and Watch Manager Sean Onions attended reports of a property fire on Crag View, Kendal. The fire involved the living room area of a first floor maisonette. A female casualty had been rescued prior to arrival & had sustained burns. One male casualty was rescued from the property by fire crews. He was suffering the effects of smoke inhalation. Both casualties were treated by paramedics. The fire was extinguished by 4 breathing apparatus wearers using one hosereel. The final apppliance returned to home station at 0132 hours. At 1848 hours on Thursday, 26th January 2012, one appliance from Barrow attended a car park on Hindpool Road, Barrow in Furness. A 19 month old child had become locked in a car. The crew rescued the boy using small tools and returned to home station at 1955 hours.

At 2217 hours on Wednesday 25th January 2012, appliances from Cockermouth and Workington along with Station Manager John Wall attended reports of a fire in a property on Beckside Close, Cockermouth. On arrival the incident was found to involve a living room of a first floor flat. All persons were accounted for, however one male occupant was given first aid by Fire Service crews and then treated by paramedics at the scene. He was transferred to hospital by ambulance. The fire was extinguished using 2 hose reels by 4 breathing apparatus wearers. The flat was then ventilated using a Positive Pressure Ventilation system. United Utilities gas and electric were requested to isolate respective supplies and fire appliances returned to home station at 2346 hours. At 1405 hours on Monday, 23rd January 2012, two appliances from Whitehaven, one appliance and the major rescue vehicle from Workington, Station Manager Lindsay McVay and Watch Manager Mark Smith attended reports of a female in difficulty in the harbour at Whitehaven. One female casualty was rescued from the harbour using two 9 metre ladders and the working at height pack. The casualty was transferred to hospital via ambulance. At 0802 hours on Sunday, 22nd January 2012, one appliance from Kendal and Watch Manager Neil Denney attended Natland Road, Kendal. A cat had become trapped within a cavity wall of an industrial building. The crew rescued the cat using small tools and returned to home station at 0907 hours. The incident involved two vehicles with one person released prior to arrival of the Fire Service. Personnel rescued one casualty using Holmatro and portable lighting. At 1811 hours on Thursday 19th January 2012, appliances from Silloth, Aspatria, Wigton and Maryport along with Station Manager Wall and Watch Manager Ingrams attended reports of a building fire near to the Solway Holiday Village, Silloth. Upon arrival it was found that the building, approx 10m x 30m was well alight. Firefighters tackled the fire using 2 main jets, 2 hose reel jets, 4 sets of breathing apparatus, a thermal image camera and a ground monitor. Crews returned to home station at 2302 hours. The incident involved one large goods vehicle and one private motor vehicle. One male casualty was confirmed as fatal at scene. On arrival crews discovered a fire in commercial premises on the ground floor of a three storey property. The fire was extinguished using four sets breathing apparatus, one hosereel, one dry powder extinguisher, thermal imaging cameras, lighting and small tools. The incident involved two private motor vehicles and one light goods vehicle. Four casualties were released prior to fire service arrival and three further casualties were released by fire service personnel using short extension ladder, lines, vehicle winch and hydraulic cutting equipment. All casualties were conveyed to hospital via ambulances with the final appliance returning to home station at 1614 hours.
