Longtown Fire Station

Longtown is situated on the south bank of the River Esk, two miles from Gretna Green and 10 miles from the centre of Carlisle.

It has a population of about 3,000 and it is a farming town and much of the business in and around Longtown depends on agriculture. In 2001, Longtown was chosen as one of nine Cumbrian market towns to be given Market Town Initiative status.

St Michael's is Longtown's parish church dedicated to St Michael and stands on land called Arthur's Head and gives its name to Arthuret Parish Council. The Gothic style church was built in 1609, the tower is later, completed in 1690. In 1750, the church was renovated and new slate roof added.

The town has two schools, Lochinvar Secondary School and Longtown Primary School, as well as Longtown Community Development Centre, which provides ICT courses, and Longtown Memorial Hall Community Centre. It also has well established business and retail sectors.

Longtown Fire Station is situated on Mary Street in the centre of the town. The station is staffed by 11 retained firefighters and has one fire engine.

Like all other fire stations the staff are actively involved in a wide range of community safety activities.   If you want any help or advice on safety issues contact Stephen Elliott or John Byers the Community Firefighters for the Station.

Telephone 01228 791316.
