The Service Control Room is based at Service HQ in Cockermouth and is staffed continually by four teams of four people. The main function of the Control Room is to deal effectively with emergency calls from the public. Other work includes administrative functions, for example, maintaining databases and notifying the media of incidents.
The Control Room function requires people who have excellent verbal communications, a calm and methodical approach and good keyboard skills, supported by previous experience of working with the public and/or in an administrative role.
From time to time there are opportunities to join this vital part of the Service and they are advertised both on this website, Cumbria County Council website and normally in the press.
Please note: In 2011, the migration of Cumbria's Control Room to a regional North West Control Centre is planned as part of the Government's Fire Control Project. The Regional Control Centre will be located at Lingley Mere, near Warrington in Cheshire.
