IF YOU were first on the scene of a collision involving a biker, would you know what to do? Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service has relaunched its popular free Biker Down safety workshops to help members of the public to answer that question by learning life-saving skills.

The three-hour short courses are internationally-recognised and designed by bikers, and their success helped Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service to earn the Public Sector Driver Safety Award at the prestigious UK Fleet Champions Awards in 2025.

But these workshops aren't just for bikers – they can be just as useful for someone who's never been on a motorcycle and teach you actions which could help in an incident or in everyday life.

Steve Brockbank, Watch Manager for Prevention at Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, said:

"Every year we respond alongside our emergency service partners to a number of road traffic collisions which involve bikers, and unfortunately we find that many members of the public who are first on the scene before we get there do not know how to manage the scene and care for a casualty.

"By teaching people these life-saving skills we hope to avoid preventable deaths and make Cumbria a safer place for bikers, and the great thing about these workshops is that many of these skills are transferable and can be just as useful in a variety of emergency situations."

Workshops will be run from Carlisle East Fire Station between March and September and places can now be booked on the Eventbrite website using the links below:
