Service completes series of appreciation events

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service has completed a successful series of appreciation events to recognise the outstanding contribution of its On-Call Firefighters.

Broughton-in-Furness

The service has welcomed hundreds of guests to gatherings held at On-Call stations across the county since the programme launched last October.

The events saw senior officers present certificates to recognise the On-Call Firefighters for the commitment they show to their respective stations and communities. Thanks were also extended to the Firefighters’ families and primary employers for their support, and guests had the opportunity to tour the stations and learn more about the appliances and kit the crews use.

Angela Opie, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service’s Group Manager and organiser of the events, said: “We have been extremely proud to host these events; they have proven to be a huge success and have been extremely well attended.

“It has been so nice to see our On-Call staff, their families and primary employers coming together and receiving the recognition they truly deserve. Without their ongoing support and commitment, we would not be able to provide an On-Call service which aims to protect and make our local communities safe.

“We will be hosting more of these events over the coming years.”

David Allen, Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, said: “On-Call Firefighters are crucial to keeping Cumbria safe, so I am pleased that they have received recognition across the county.

“Being a Firefighter is a rewarding job and I know that all of our Firefighters – Wholetime and On-Call – are incredibly dedicated to their roles.

“I would like to extend my thanks to our On-Call staff for all the work that they do alongside their day-to-day roles as well as to their families and employers that provide them with the support to ensure that our residents and visitors are kept safe.”

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service runs an ongoing programme of recruitment to its 36 On-Call stations. For more information about the role of an On-Call Firefighter, and to apply, visit: www.cumbriafire.gov.uk/on-callrecruitment
