Service reflects on Firefighters Memorial Day
Today is Firefighters Memorial Day – a moment to pay our respects to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty

Our crews show bravery and courage every time they are called out to face danger, save lives and protect our communities.
We would encourage you to join a national minute's silence at midday today. Take time to pause, reflect on sacrifices made by those are who no longer with us, and thank the incredible firefighters who have served or are currently in service to keep the public safe.
Paul Hancock, Chief Fire Officer for Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, said: “Firefighters Memorial Day is a poignant reminder each year of the bravery of our crews and the risks they face to protect our communities.
“It is vital that we all take time to reflect on the sacrifices made by firefighters, both in Cumbria and further afield, and remember those who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty.
“I am proud and privileged to be Chief Fire Officer for Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service and to be able to witness the commitment and dedication of our team to their duty.
“Thank you to each and every one of our firefighters who have served or are currently in service for their unwavering commitment to keeping the public safe.”
David Allen, Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, said: “We are very fortunate to have a team of heroes in Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service who are willing to put their own lives in danger to protect others.
“I have the utmost respect for all of our county’s incredibly skilled crews, who work in some of the most difficult conditions imaginable to save lives and help our communities to feel safe.
“It is important to pay our respects to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our safety, and I would encourage all Cumbrians to observe the national one-minute silence on Sunday."
